Hello Everything i read recommends not starting...

Hello Everything i read recommends not starting solids until 6months. However most on here seem to be feeding their little ones of the same age sensible solids...ie fruit and veg or farax. My son is 5months old. He is not eating solids yet, however i am sure he would LOVE too!! He is a strong bub of about 8kilos....and 68cm long. What do people think? When did you start and why? Anyone else a little confused???? I am keen to try him on something healthy like some pureed veg. Am i rushing into this?
